Hello! I’m Georgina – designer, maker, professional glitter-spreader and the person behind Georgina Kay Designs.
If you’ve found your way here through a personalised bauble, Christmas ornament or one of my keepsake gifts, you might be surprised to discover that there isn’t a big team of people behind the scenes.
There’s me.
From designing new products and making your orders to answering messages, tying ribbons, packing parcels and occasionally wondering how glitter has managed to get there – I’m the person behind it all.
And as Georgina Kay Designs has been creating memories since 2013, I thought it was about time I properly introduced myself and told you how this little business came to be.
So, welcome to The Glitter Diaries.
Grab a cuppa and come behind the scenes…
Where it all began
Georgina Kay Designs started in 2013.
There was no grand business plan to build a Christmas empire. No enormous workshop filled with elves. And certainly no idea that, more than a decade later, I would still be making personalised gifts for families all over the UK.
It began simply with a love of making things.
I have always loved the idea of giving somebody something that feels as though it was created just for them.
A name.
A special date.
An inside joke.
A wedding.
A new baby.
A new home.
Those tiny details can turn an ordinary gift into something somebody genuinely treasures.
And gradually, what started with handmade creations grew into Georgina Kay Designs.
Then came the baubles…
If there is one thing that has become synonymous with Georgina Kay Designs, it has to be my personalised glitter baubles.
And I'll admit it:
I may have created a monster.
Because once I started making them, I couldn't stop.
Different colours.
Different ribbons.
Different designs.
Different occasions.
And, apparently, I don't believe there's any such thing as too much glitter.
Today there are designs celebrating everything from Baby's First Christmas and first Christmases together to engagements, weddings, new homes, anniversaries, families, hobbies, pets and loved ones remembered at Christmas.
And every year, I somehow think of more.
Why Christmas became such a big part of Georgina Kay Designs
I absolutely love Christmas.
Not just Christmas Day itself.
I love the build-up.
The first twinkling lights appearing in windows. Christmas music. Beautiful wrapping paper. Bringing the decorations down. Finding an old ornament you'd forgotten about. Buying presents you can't wait to give somebody.
And, obviously…
THE DECORATIONS.
I love that our Christmas trees gradually become a record of our lives.
One year there's a First Christmas Together decoration.
Then perhaps a First Christmas in Our New Home.
A wedding ornament might follow.
Then a Baby's First Christmas bauble.
A family ornament.
Something for the dog or cat.
And before you realise it, you're no longer simply decorating a tree.
You're hanging your family's story on it.
That idea has become a huge part of what Georgina Kay Designs is about.
Made by me, personalised for you
Even as the range has grown, I've never wanted Georgina Kay Designs to lose the thing that made it special in the first place.
Personalisation.
Your order isn't sitting on a warehouse shelf waiting for somebody to pick it.
Many of my products don't really exist until you order them.
You choose the design.
You give me the names.
You choose the colours.
You tell me the date.
And then I make something specifically for you.
My signature glitter baubles, for example, are handmade to order in my UK workshop. From filling them with beautiful glitter to applying the personalisation and finishing them with ribbon, each one passes through my hands before it reaches yours.
It takes longer than mass production.
But that's rather the point.
There are real stories behind your orders
One of the loveliest things about running this business is reading the stories that sometimes accompany an order.
A name and a date can look incredibly simple on an order form.
But I know that behind them there might be a huge story.
“Our First Christmas 2026” might represent two people finally getting their first home together.
“Baby's First Christmas” might be something a family has waited years to order.
A wedding bauble could be celebrating the happiest day of someone's life.
A remembrance decoration might be for somebody facing their first Christmas without a person they love.
I never forget that.
To me, I may be making another bauble that afternoon.
To the person receiving it, it could mean an enormous amount.
That's why personalised gifts will always be at the heart of what I do.
More than baubles
Of course, Georgina Kay Designs has grown far beyond those first creations.
Today you'll find personalised Christmas ornaments, family decorations, keepsake gifts, travel accessories, personalised gifts and collectables, alongside the glitter baubles that started so much of the Christmas madness.
I've also ventured into exclusive collectable designs, including enamel ornaments and pin badges.
And I'm constantly dreaming up new things.
Sometimes that's exciting.
Sometimes I suspect I need somebody to confiscate my notebook.
Because the sentence:
“I've had an idea…”
has a habit of creating rather a lot of work.
My little workshop
This is where the magic – and occasionally the chaos – happens.
My workshop is filled with all the things you would expect from someone who makes personalised gifts.
Ribbon.
Vinyl.
Boxes.
Baubles.
Packaging.
Designs.
Equipment.
And enough glitter to ensure that I will probably still be sparkling in retirement.
Christmas is particularly interesting.
As orders begin arriving, the workshop transforms.
Baubles appear everywhere.
Names and dates are waiting to be added.
Ribbons are being matched.
Boxes are being prepared.
Parcels start piling up ready to leave.
And somewhere amongst all of that is me, probably listening to Christmas music while making another order.
It can be wonderfully hectic.
But seeing everything finished and ready to head off to its new home never gets old.
From my workshop to your Christmas tree
This is the bit I find quite magical.
I make something here.
I carefully package it.
The postman takes it away.
And a few days later, it's in somebody else's home.
Then December arrives.
The tree goes up.
And something I made is hanging there amongst that family's most treasured decorations.
Sometimes customers return years later.
Perhaps I made their wedding bauble and now they're ordering their baby's first Christmas decoration.
Or they bought a family ornament and another name needs adding to the family.
Those are the moments when I realise that I've been allowed to become a tiny part of somebody else's traditions.
And I don't take that for granted.
Why the name Georgina Kay?
This is something you might have wondered.
The business carries my name and my mums name Kay because I wanted it to feel personal.
This isn't an anonymous company.
When you buy from Georgina Kay Designs, you're buying from a real person and a small independent UK business.
There's somebody genuinely excited when an order comes in.
There's somebody making it.
There's somebody checking it.
There's somebody packing it.
And yes…
There's somebody doing a tiny internal celebration when a customer comes back and orders again.
Thirteen Christmases later…
2026 is particularly special because Georgina Kay Designs has now been creating personalised gifts for 13 years.
When I think back to 2013, I could never have imagined where those first handmade products would lead.
There have been thousands of orders.
Thousands of names.
Thousands of Christmases.
I've learnt an enormous amount, changed designs, introduced new products, retired others and probably purchased enough ribbon to stretch considerably further than I'd care to calculate.
But the reason I still love doing this hasn't really changed.
I get to make things that mean something to people.
That's a pretty wonderful job to have.
And now… The Glitter Diaries ✨
Which brings us here.
I've wanted the website to become more than somewhere you simply arrive, buy something and leave.
I want to share more of the world behind Georgina Kay Designs.
So The Glitter Diaries is where I'll be sharing Christmas inspiration, gift ideas, decorating tips, behind-the-scenes stories, new releases, traditions, personalisation ideas and – inevitably – quite a lot about baubles.
You'll get to see what happens behind the finished product photographs.
And I'm sure there will be the occasional glimpse of the chaos too.
Because handmade isn't always perfectly styled photographs and beautifully tied ribbons.
Sometimes it's sitting surrounded by boxes wondering why you thought launching another 20 designs before Christmas was a sensible idea.
The most important part of the story is actually yours
Georgina Kay Designs may have my name on it.
But after all these years, I've realised that your stories are what have shaped it.
Every time somebody asks me to create something for an occasion I hadn't thought of, it sparks another idea.
Every photograph you send of a decoration hanging on your tree reminds me why I make them.
Every returning customer who comes back for the next family milestone becomes another little chapter in this business.
I make the decoration.
You give it its meaning.
And then you take it away and make memories with it.
That's the bit I love most.
Here's to the next chapter 🎄✨
Thirteen years after Georgina Kay Designs began, I'm still here.
Still designing.
Still making.
Still thinking about Christmas far earlier in the year than any reasonable person should.
And still finding glitter absolutely everywhere.
There are lots of exciting things coming – new designs, new collections, more collectables and plenty happening inside The Christmas Emporium and The Bauble Shop.
And now I get to share a little more of it here too.
So whether you've been buying from me for years or you've only just discovered Georgina Kay Designs…
Welcome.
I'm very glad you've found me.
Here's to beautiful gifts, ridiculously sparkly Christmas trees and lots more memories still to be made.
